We are not an organization, but rather a catalyst for change. Our model is to work in partnership with existing organizations like nonprofits, schools, faith communities and government to this end. We do this through connecting the local resources of time, expertise and finances to meet local needs.
HISTORY
In 2009, Andy and Robin McCullough, through their work with local refugees, started tutoring two students at Ryan Elementary in Lafayette. Each week they would work with these sisters in literacy and math. One of these girls would go on to be the first from her family to graduate high school and to attend college. The other is currently a senior at Centaurus High School.
The following year, Andy launched ‘Friends of Ryan’ a community partnership with the school to provide resources for families in need, to help support literacy needs and to support the STEAM school learning. For 9 years brought resources of expertise, volunteers and finances to serve these needs. At the same time, Robin expanded the tutoring for children of refugees to bring in volunteers to help with a weekly homework club. This weekly program still exists today and has served over 50 kids who study at various BVSD schools.
Andy launched the Bridges of Opportunity project in 2018. In 2020, working with BVSD and local community groups, we distributed over 1200 masks and non-perishable supplies to families in need. While meeting emergency needs is important, our long-term goal is to work in a way that bring asset-based community development.
Andy currently is the Executive Director of Reintegra which offers educational grants to survivors of human trafficking. Andy also serves on the BVSD Superintendent's Budget Advisory Committee and the community board for the Lafayette Communities that Care.
